Blaze and Gamdom, two more gambling sites, have been added to Twitch's list of banned sites. This follows the company's policy shift from last year.
The business is a livestreaming platform for interactive media including video games, TV shows, movies, music, and more.
Gambling sites have been banned in an effort to "protect its community" from potential harm caused by gambling, as well as to "address predatory behaviour" and "make Twitch a safer place."
Gambling watchers on Twitch dropped by 75% after the policy was updated to prevent streaming of certain sites that involve slots, roulette, or dice games, indicating that the prohibition is effective.
A Twitch employee tweeted, "This meant the change had an immediate impact, and that our community has been better protected from scams and related harms." This was in reference to a policy tweak that cut gambler viewership by 75%.
We've seen some new developments since then, therefore we're revising the list of banned resources to ensure the safety of our community. It's crucial that this policy keeps working as intended to protect people from danger.
Since September 2022, when the company first began considering the issue of gambling on its platform, Twitch has been revising its policy and will implement it that October.
Despite the fact that Twitch prohibits the sharing of links or referral codes to gambling sites, the sharing of links pertaining to sports betting, fantasy sports, and poker is allowed.
On Twitter, a Twitch spokesman explained the company's position, writing, "Gambling content on Twitch has been a big topic of discussion in the community and something we've been actively reviewing since our last policy update in this area."
While we do not permit members to promote or share referral codes for sites that include slot machines, roulette, or dice games, we have seen some members get around this policy and put the community at risk.
On October 18th, we will be implementing a new policy that will prevent users from being able to broadcast games like slots, roulette, and dice from sites that aren't licenced in the United States or a nation that offers enough consumer protection.
Stake.com, Rollbit.com, Duelbits.com, and Roobet.com will all be among these sites. But as time goes on, we could find more.
