Chinese New Year celebrations took held from February 11 to 17, although mainland residents were advised not to travel over the holiday in order to help prevent the spread of Covid-19.
About 56% (or 240,933) of Macau's tourists came from the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau Greater Bay Area, with Zhuhai accounting for 106,452 of them. The total number of mainland tourists was 380,649, a 426% increase year on year. An estimated 40,037 visitors arrived from Hong Kong, while 6,410 came from Taiwan. Individual Visit Scheme (IVS) visits numbered 163,157, and overnight visitors surged by 226% to 245,309, while same-day visitors jumped by 124% to 181,813.
The number of tourists to Macau fell 67% year on year in the first two months of 2021, to 983,887.
