In an effort to curb COVID-19 instances, UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson is poised to create a three-tier local lockdown system next week, which might compel casinos to close again.
Nicola Sturgeon's COVID-19 policies closed casinos, bingo halls, and other hospitality enterprises in Scotland this week. Welsh and English casinos want to prevent a similar restriction south of the border.
Last month's 10pm hospitality and leisure venue restriction put regional casinos under pressure. Michael Dugher, BGC CEO, claimed Boris Johnson had "signalled the death knell for the casino industry" with this action.
The BGC website now says the sector is willing to quit selling alcohol to avert more closures.
Dugher said: “Ministers need to understand that casinos are not pseudo-nightclubs or places where young people go to drink.
“However, they are willing to reduce their risk levels even further by refusing to serve alcohol, which the Government seems to think is another factor in the virus spread.”
